I’m in the process of putting a rebuilt 5.3 in my truck listed above 1500. I got a rebuilt engine less the cylinder heads and lifter and lifter tray. The guy rebuilt it with a stage 4 cam, and I need to remove and replaced with a stock cam.

My question is, can I replace the cam without lifters being installed? Cam installed then put in lifters. I’m waiting on parts and I’m just trying to speed the process up.

Thanks

I have heard of people removing the rockers and intake manifold and pushing the lifters up inside the plastic guides and then they stay, but I have not done it, so I don't know how successful it is. Good call on replacing the cam with stock though.

This is a video that will show the camshaft replacement so you can get an idea of what you are in for when doing the job:

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
