4x4 randomly engage

Hi,

Can you tell if the bang is coming from the front of the vehicle or approx under the center of the vehicle?

I ask because there is an actuator on both the transfer case and on the front axle. One or the other could be shorting. Plus, there is a transfer case control module under the dash which could be the issue. (see pic 1 for location).

Here is what I recommend. We need to determine if there are diagnostic trouble codes indicating where the problem is coming from. The computer needs scanned to do this. Most parts stores will do it for free, but often times, the scan tools they have can't read these types of codes. Do you have anyone that can do it for you? This is where we should start.
