4x4 Drive shaft repair?

my 4x4 drive shaft seized up, attempted to get apart but couldn't. got one in junkyard and was able to split apart no problem. Except I have two issues, I need a new seal and can't find any definitive "this is the seal" I need, the seal it had basically disintegrated. My second question is what type of grease does it need re-packed with. Thanks.

GM doesn't show the seal as a replacement part; they like many others only show the complete replacement shaft. They don't even show it apart in the service data. As for the seal, take it to a bearing supply place and see if they can match it up with a replacement. As for the grease, a high-pressure moly grease like used in CV joints would work.

local shops that may be able to help weren't unfortunately. But I was able to finally get my drive line apart. was able to get the seal off, it does have a part number, have done some looking online but haven't found anything solid.

Look at Motion Industries, Grainger, MSC or McMaster Carr. Take the part number, but also measure the outside diameter, the width of the seal, the inner diameter and the type of seal and call a couple of them. They will probably have something that would work. It's entire job is to hold in grease and keep dirt and moisture out, so even a thick O-ring would likely work.
