4wd not working ?

After car is driven for a few minutes the indicator light begins flashing as it is switching in to 4wd it does this continus. Upon increasing speed it sounds hollow...

Normally this means there is a code that is related to the transfer case system. So let's start with checking for codes.

Once we know what codes are there we can make a clear determination but the most common cause of this is an encoder issue. I am attaching the info about this below if that is what it proves out to be.
