Notice the front drive shaft is missing after I purchased the vehicle. What would be the reason?

Good morning,
That is a red flag. It could be a failure in the front differential or a failure in the transfer case.
I would call the previous owner and ask for the driveshaft. That is a expensive part to purchase.
Then install it and see if it operates correctly.
