Code p1887, 4-AWD yellow light is on?

Hello, 4awd yellow light is on, get it serviced and was told that the rear differential needs replacing ($2,000), should I get replaced or not (don't mind being in 2wd)? Scans were done, code p1887, no connector problems but solenoid is in open circuit.

The P1887 code transfer case motor/position sensor circuit, so I don't think you need to replace the entire differential but the rear viscous coupler that is bolts to the rear end. here are the instructions in the diagrams below. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
