Truck listed above has a 4.8L V8. l Truck shifts from 1st to 2nd hard which put on engine light and threw P0700 code and a P0717 code. I’ll park the truck jump in it again sometimes it’s still on the check engine light sometimes it off I won’t hard shift again until maybe a day later could be two days. I think it’s an electrical issue. I’ve replaced the solenoids. the transmission has been rebuilt before.

Hello, I'm Danny.

The P0700 code is related to the TCM-transmission control module and the code P0717 is related to the transmission input speed sensor. I've attached picture diagnostic steps below for both codes on your truck. Get back to us with what you find and we'll go from there. Here is an electrical testing tutorial:

Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Thanks Danny. I dropped pan, changed transmission oil, filter, and torque converter clutch solenoid. Checked all wire connectors inside pan by valve body, everything looked good. In order to change the Input turbine sensor, you need to drop the transmission I figure if I’m going to drop it I might as well rebuild it so I put everything back and around the truck it hasn’t done it yet let me check it out for the next day or two and I’m going to trace the wires from INput turbine sensor to PCM and possibly ground that to the chassis if I get hard shift from 1st to 2nd again. Dropping the transmission will be last thing I try if grounding and what I have done today don’t work. Started raining so I should get back to you tomorrow thanks again for all your help you guys are a blessing. thanks 2CarPros. I will get back to you all in a couple days.

Hello again,

I ended up tapping into the ground wire, the black and white stripe from the TCM and ran it to the chassis right below ,driver side Just added it with the other ground that’s already there I believe it’s from the fuel pump. I’ve been driving it for 45 minutes now no problem I’ve been dogging the truck, trying to get it to start shifting hard again but so far so good. I’ll keep you informed within the next couple days and let you know if I come back on. I did end up putting it back on the scanner after clearing the codes when I grounded it and I had no trouble show up. I’m hoping to contact you in two more days and let you know that the problem hasn’t happened again. until then, have a great day.

Hey Danny, it shifted hard from 1st to 2nd again so I cut into the same ground wire closer to where it is grounded on the right front engine block, and grounded to chassis in the front near headlight. I also got a PO13A code which is a O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 which I purchased just haven’t changed yet, so far so good. it has been since Saturday running well. thanks

You can use a 14-gauge wire, it should be okay. Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
