The four wheel drive selection switch is intermittently not lighting up or lighting up indicating the incorrect mode. such as indicating "neutral" but the transfer case is in two wheel drive.

scan for codes it may be the encoder motor on t-case as that is a high failure rate on this. auto parts can scan for free.
