You don't have to time it, unless you dink around with the distributor

Hello again,

Did you double check the gap on the spark plugs? I have included the spark plugs specs in the diagrams down below. Also, I came across this Technical Service Bulletin*TSB) when I was getting the spark plug specs for your vehicle, and it, also, is included in the diagrams down below. Please look over these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out, please.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the information. I should have pointed out also that the miss occurs under load. At idle it runs smoothly. I will check the gap, I set them at .35 and also the wires for tears. Suspect that may be hard to ID.

Hello again,

I'm pretty sure you just found the problem. According to the specs your plugs should be gaped at .060". Re gap and enjoy.

Thanks,
Alex

My bad, my engine is a 5.0 liter which I think is 305 CI. The data plate on the front of the engine compartment says the plug gag is .35 I am running a check on the ignition wiring and so far all have checked out okay. Suggestions?

Should I change the gag to .60 and disregard what the data plate says?

Appreciate the guidance. Mine is a H so gap is .35. Check the conductivity of the wires this afternoon and they seem okay. Still have the miss. not sure where to go next. Might replace the wires. Not sure how old they are.

Start the engine in a dark area and use a spray bottle with water in it to mist the wires. Any arcing and they need replacement.

Resolved issue. In checking each spark plug gap I found that the #5 plug had no gap. I must have hit it when installing it.
Set it to proper gap and the old chevy is running smooth again. Appreciate all the guidance.
