Engine "ticking" noise

It doesn't sound deep enough to be a rod knock. It sounds like a collapsed lifter.

Can you get another video where you raise the RPM and see what the noise does? That will help tell us what it is as different noises act differently when the RPM is raised.

Also, does it do this no matter what the engine temp or is it worse when cold and gets better as it warms up?

Lastly if this is a rod knock then we need to drain the oil and look for metal. If there is a rod knocking then that is due to metal to metal contact with the rod bearing and crank journal. Which means that metal will be in the oil.

I don't know if my last reply went through so I'm reposting. In this 2nd video, i go up to 2,000 RPMs, and then 2,500. if it isn't clear I can try to do another one. It gets louder when it's warm. You don't hear it on a cold start until it warms up. We didn't see any metallic with the last oil change, but we are almost do for another. And a additive was added to the last change and the sound stayed the same.

Okay. Correct me if I am wrong but it seemed to not speed up or get louder when you raised the RPM.

If that is the case then this could be a wrist pin issue. Can you give more detail about what happened with the nitrous backfire? Did the intake get damaged or engine stall?

Any other issues currently? Misfire or rough running?

From what I hear is that it gets quicker when I go up on the RPMs. My husband was working on something with the car, it was off, and the nitrous engaged itself somehow. I'm assuming it was still present in the intake when the car was turned on, like it wasn't a long enough wait period for it to I guess air out. Once the car was started the backfire happened. The intake did not get damaged and the engine to my knowledge did not stall. My car runs somewhat rough to me when it is cold, like it kinda jerks somewhat with acceleration, or even just coasting out of my driveway, once I drive around some it runs fine, just sounds bad.

Okay. Clearly I defer to you on the sound of it because you are standing there so if it gets quicker when the RPMs are raised it is most likely a rod knock.

Normally lifters will quiet down when you raise the RPM because the oil pressure will pump them up slightly.

Wrist pins will be worse on decel. So you rev the engine and then when the RPM is coming down the piston will slap the cylinder wall.

Rod knocks will get faster and normally louder when the RPMs come up.

The backfire doesn't sound serious and I doubt that caused this issue but it could have. The fact that this was just a remaining amount of nitrous is not concerning.

Nitrous just allows you to add more fuel as it introduces more molecules of oxygen as it is N2O. So it allows you to put more fuel in the engine to balance the air fuel mixture back out and more fuel means more power.

At this point, the only real way to find the noise is to tear it apart and look at the bearings to find the one that is making the noise.
