I bought a 2004 chevy cavalier with 85000mi. First of all it appears to have an oil leak. (About a quart over 3 weeks have leaked out). Oil can be seen underneath and has spread like an in even puddle so it now appears on the bottom of the transmission. I plan on getting it up on stands and cleaning the old oil to try and locate the leak. Any advice on places to begin looking and moving further in. All oil is underneath can see no sign of oil from top of engine.
Secondly the chevy rough idles while in gear (reverse or drive) it is fine in park or neutral unless the a/c is on then it rough idles on all gears. I used fuel injector cleaner. What should I be looking for to help sole this problem. From my understanding it's a vague problem and can be numerous things. Where should I start and work my way up to.
Lastly the car vibrates while breaking. I know I need new break pads. I plan on rotating the tires what do I look for to see if I need new rotors or calipers? What else would cause the car to vibrate while applying the breaks.
I appreciate the help and any recommendations on how to guides or videos. I have ordered a General Motors Chevrolet Cavalier & Pontiac Sunfire: 1995 thru 2005 (Haynes Repair Manual)
Ryan, Mark; Paperback. Still waiting for it to arrive. But would like to start working on the car ASAP. I do not have much experience working on cars but with the proper tools and guide I am capable of teaching myself most repairs.
