When cranking the car whenever it's cold the crank time is extended for several seconds before the car starts after that it cranks just as it should runs fine.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

It could be a couple things. If the vehicle hasn't been tuned up yet, plugs may be getting worn or the fuel filter may be dirty. Here is a quick link that discusses how to tune a vehicle:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-tune-up-a-car-engine

Next, if this only happens after the vehicle sits, there may be a fuel pressure drop which requires the pump a couple extra seconds to build pressure. Here is a link that discusses how to check fuel pressure:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

A quick way to check if pressure drop off is a problem is this:

1) Turn the key to the run position (not start) and count to 3.

2) Turn the key off and then repeat number 1.

3) Do this three times and then try to start it.

If it starts right away, there is a pressure drop off issue. By cycling the key like I described allows the pump to rebuild pressure before you try to start it.

Try that and let me know if it helps or what happens.

Take care,
Joe
