I have the truck listed above diesel, out of nowhere it started to cut off while i was driving the truck, it completely lost power. I put it in neutral and it starts again but it cuts off in maybe 8 seconds. I took it to a shop, and they had it for a week and couldn’t find anything. They replaced the push start button and replaced the vehicle batteries, and it ran good for like one day and now it is doing it again. They also checked all the ground wires and made sure everything was good. I can drive my truck in the morning without an issue, but when i am driving back from work it’s when it starts again, almost like it does it more frequently when it's hot.

So I need to ask if the truck has had a CAN scan and if the fuel filters have been changed? If not, this is where I would start.

Please go over this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6de-1mIpzi8

Also, this video will show you how to do the scan needed:

These trucks had a problem with the main high pressure fuel pump, fuel pump control module and the crankshaft position sensor as well, fyi. Please go over these guides and get back to us. Here is the sensor location so you can try swapping it out, when this sensor fails it does not leave a code.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, everything mentioned has been done and with no luck. There was one time the check engine light came on and it threw a code for the PCM however that code went off on its own and hasn’t come back. The truck is tuned and deleted. The shop who had it for a week was the same people who tuned it.

Okay, it doesn't have anything to do with the tune then. These kinds of problems are difficult to find with no codes. There was a CAN scan performed correct? When the engine stalls will it run on starting fluid?

Breaks and turns like normal, until i put it in neutral to start again than i lose breaks and steering. What is crazy is that it will start in drive as well. I noticed that it’s doing more often when temperatures are hot outside, in the morning it drives like nothing, but at around 2pm it only runs for like 30 seconds before it cuts off. Today i drove it on the highway (normally drive back roads) and it ran perfectly, makes me think that something is getting hot.

Yep, that sounds correct. I have seen the engine coolant sensor cause this as well, you can also may have an electrical connector heating up and causing a disconnection. So was that a yay or nay on the CAN scan, did you watch the video? If you have a scanner you can see the engine temp when it gets warm to see if the value goes off the amp when hot.

The shop that has the truck now confirmed with me yesterday that they did do a CAN scan on it, but they didn’t see anything on it. I did have a dealership flush my radiator coolant prior to all these problems. You think they would have messed that sensor up?

It could have pushed it over the edge, it will be interesting to see what the reading of the sensor is on the scanner when you are having the problem.

I have seen the sensor short out and cause this issue.
