You only use one port to charge the AC in your automobile. It is called the low side and will have a black or blue cap marked with an L on it. Never charge it on the high side as damage or injury will result. If you cannot find the low side I would have someone who does car AC repair to do the work.

Most likely the refrigerant has leaked out and the system is low on pressure. There's a low-pressure cutout switch to stop the compressor from engaging. You don't want it to run when there's a chance outside air could be drawn into the low side through a leak. The moisture in the air would form an acid that eats away the metal parts.

Control head, Engine Computer, low-pressure cutout switch, compressor clutch, wiring, . . .

Look for a clutch relay and activate or bypass it to see if the clutch engages. You can do that with the ignition switch off. If it engages, you know the clutch and all the wiring in that circuit are okay. The easiest way to bypass the relay is to pop its cover off, reinstall it that way, then squeeze the movable contact. You can use a stretched-out paper clip too to jump the terminals, but I don't know for sure which two.

Here's a drawing of the common Chrysler relays. If you have one that looks like these, you can jump terminals 30 and 87 together.
