2014 Dodge Caravan Noise

I have a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan and I live here in Toronto, Canada. For the past couple of weeks that the weather here is extremely cold (-11 C and below), when I start my van in the morning I can hear a whistling or humming noise coming from the engine. But after 10-15 seconds, the said noise disappears. What could be this noise? Thanks a lot and hoping for you most appreciated reply.

Under those conditions, chances are the alternator is making the noise itself. I'm sure the temps have an affect on the battery which will then place a heaver load on the alternator. Have you had it looked at by a dealer since it is still under warranty?

I just came from the dealer today but they did not find any fault or code regarding the whistling noise from my van. They told me to bring it back if the noise get worst and leave it overnight so they can hear it when they start it in the morning. I even told them to change the belt, alternator and the pulleys but they say that no fault had been diagnosed. And they said that they have to know or find the fault before they can do that. So do you have any idea what causes the noise beside from the alternator? Thanks a lot and hoping for your most appreciated reply once again.

I have to be honest, if I am correct and the noise is the result of the alternator being under an excessive load, it really won't hurt anything. However, I wanted to have that confirmed. As far as the dealer, if I was you, I would make arrangements to leave the vehicle overnight when very cold weather is expected. That way they will hear it. If that isn't an option, you may have to wait until it gets worse. I'm sure you don't want to hear that, but it may be the only choice.

That was the service attendant told me to leave my vehicle overnight so they could hear the noise when they start it in the morning. It seems that noise is getting worst when I started my vehicle this morning. Thank you very much for the info and I have to make an arrangement to the dealer once again.

The cause of that whistling noise coming from my van during cold start up was cause by the idler pulley. The dealer had replaced the said pulley and the belt and I no longer hear the noise.
