I have a brand new 2013 Subaru Crosstrek. When the car is off and cooled down, I hear a sound like the fuel pump running. If I turn the key to accessory then off, the sound stops. I don't understand what can be running if the car is off?

Can you tell aprox where the noise is coming from? Have you discussed it with the dealer?

I have the same problem with our new Crosstrek. I have yet to take it back to the dealer. It seems to be coming from the rear underside somewhere near the rear axle but you can hear it as you approach the car. (It is a whining motor or pump type of sound.) Any suggestions?

Could the noise be coming from the fuel pump?

Yes it could be and probably is. I'll try to provide an update when I confirm.

I took our Crosstrek to the dealer. It was not the fuel pump. The Crosstrek has an evap self test system that is triggered by pressure and might run even a few hours after the vehicle is off.
