2012 Ford Mustang Tail Lights do not work.

check to see if you blew a fuse fuse 22 in smart junction box in kick panel then have it scanned as it may be a body module problem.

You were correct. Fuse 22 was blown. I replaced the fuse and as soon as I energized the tail lights the new fuse was blown. Where should I go from here?

check to see if any wire has been tapped into for something like an alarm and or other accessory if you do see that see where it goes. Normally it will be under the dash or along the inside of car, maybe trunk. Then if you don't see anything you'll need apro scan it to see if it's the body module which I kind of doubt. it may be a abad bulb as well which means check ing all of them in the rear as well as front also check the ground wire at center of trunk.

I have not been able to find any after market or external connections to the original wiring. Also, I checked both ground wires (one for each side) in the truck during earlier inspections and both are well connected. How would one go about checking for a bad bulb? I am not familiar with the newer style bulbs found in the 2012 Mustang. I realize that I could pull one bulb at a time and replace the fuse and see if blows, but that seems archaic. If all else fails and the body module must be checked, who, other than the dealer, may be able to check the module?

one other thing I forgot is if this has ever beenin accident then check those areas as body shopps do a terrible job of wiring fixes, they just twist together stuff, don't tape it etc. also look under hood and trunk areas for boken wires as that is where they break the most unless this car has been put together by two cars then you have to pullup carpeting etc. for bulbs just pull them out one at a time an dif you see black on them then they are probably bad you don' t even need to take them out of the socket. I don't think that is your problem however. I stil think you need to get a pro to scan it as it m ay be a body module problem as well.

FYI what I decided to do was disconnect the supply connectors for each of the lights in question and then reconnect them one at a time to determine if I had a potentially bad light fixture blowing the fuse. This would also potentially let me know if I had a bad body module. The result was the license plate light circuit has a short that was blowing the fuse. I checked the accessible wiring in the trunk and the bulbs with no success. Further troubleshooting will require some disassembly of the rear bumper cover. All other lights in the circuit are now working.

it may have been hit there or bumped to cause that . best place to check is where wiring goes through to bumper. it may also be your side lights or wiring going to those check there as you don'thave to pull the bumper fascia off.

Removed bumper fascia and discovered that there were bare wires exposed in circuit (had to remove fascia any way for other repairs). Strange though as the wires did not go to anything? They had been stripped and just left. Exposed areas were touching each other which caused short.
