Today I heard you should not use cruise control within the first 600 miles. Unfortunately I used it for 20 miles one-way and 20 miles back on the freeway, all while under 200 miles.

The Honda dealership. I have also seen this same suggestion on the Internet. I believe they said it's not good to keep a brand new car at the same RPMs for a steady period of time, at least while you're "breaking it in"?? If I went 20 miles there and 20 miles back using cruise control, all while under 200 miles, that's exactly what I did.

If your mileage is correct-the engine needs time to break-in, for me the C/C has nothing to do with it-Good Luck

Like I said, my concern is if I used the cruise control that early in the car's life (under 200 miles), will it not perform or last like it should? Can it cause any damage like this? It's a 2011 CRV 4WD LX.

Do I damage or cause extra wear on anything if I drive around with my cruise control on, but not set?

Hi flafry,

No worries about that. The switch is to get the cruise control on standby and should not affect anything if it is left on.

Cruise control frequently accelerates then deccelerate and will then shut off...reste the on off switch and the process continues.

Ok first you will need a digital multi meter ok. Then you need to find the cruise control actuator under the hood this is where the control cable comes from. and unplug the 4 pin harness from it. Now you will need to make a couple of jumper wires one to reach the battery possitive and one to go to ground ok. Then take and ground term 1 and put power to term 2 listen for a clicking sound. If it doesn't click then replace it. If it does click then go to the next step. Here is a pic of the connector.

Put power to term 4 and gound term 3 you should hear the motor run now take it to half throttle and you should still hear the motor run now go to full throttle and motor should stop running. If this works fine then go to the step. Put power to term 3 and ground term 4 now you should not hear the motor, now take it to half throttle you should hear the motor and you should hear it a full throttle. Here is a pic of the 4 pin connector and then I will include a pic of the pin test for the throttle possitions ok. If all this works then the actuator is fine, if any of this does not work then the actuator needs replacement ok. Here is a pic of the pin tests to see if the motor runs when it is suppose to ok.

Let me know how this goes and we will test what is next in line ok. Thanks and have a great day.

As per your instructions the actuator passes the testing. What next?

Thanks...checked both grounds...they are ok..no codes found. Dont know where to go from here...If I turn off main switch on dash for 2 min. & try it again it will cut off quickly. But if I turn off main switch for 10 min. then try it again it will last about 15 min & cut off agsin. As I said, it only acts up in hot weather or After a long time of running.

yu will hve to check for shorts down steering column wire or a bad relay for the cruise. it may be a connection problem someplace as well.it cold be the cable reel in steering column as well as it goes through that. guess you'll have to have a pro look at it.

I have found that if I turn the A/C the floor & cool the under side oh the dash the cruise works fine. When I turn the A/C away from the floor the cruise will soon cut off. Something for tbe cruise is getting hot & breaking a conection.

Hi spearsdav,

I need to get this clear.

When you turn on the main cruise control switch, it illuminates confirming it is working.

When you set the speed, the dash ndicator light shows that the cruise control is working but the speed is not set?
