tire sensor replacement?

My tire sensor appears faulty in my car. Information panel says tire is low, 26 lbs, but after inflating to 38 lbs and checking with tire gauge, information panel continues to indicate that that tire is still low. Do sensors go bad this easily?

No they do not fail that easily in general but it can happen.

You need to drive the vehicle a little ways to get it to update so if you fill it and are expecting the indicator to change immediately, that may be the issue.
