Hello my car was purchased in Nov 2010. It had a full service18 months ago.
The oil light came on last month. The car was towed to the garage. The
garage told me the oil was fine and they updated software on it. Last week
the same problem happened. Now the dealership is saying the car needs
a new engine. Cylinder 2 is loosing pressure. They are telling me it is
because l didn't get the car serviced at the recommended intervals.
Does this seem right ????? Please give me you opinions. Thanks Audrey

You didn't have the car serviced for 18 months? Yes, it sounds like they are correct. The oil should have been changed 3 times in that interval and the level checked weekly.

3 times in 18 months? Not everyone lives in North America and follows outdated standards.

Most oil drain intervals in Europe are 15K to 24K km (9k to 15k miles).

Yes, and now you see the result of the reduced maintenance schedule so they can sell more cars.

Quite the opposite.

They have cars that get twice the fuel economy that we have, but North America doesn't allow them in because that would mean that less fuel is sold at the pumps... government wants its money through gas tax!

Not a video by me, but it explains the issue quite well.
