2010 Volkswagen Jetta A/C shuts off intermentantly

I have had an issue with the a/c shutting off randomly and take around 10 minutes to turn on. i am not referring to cool down time, because it never gets real cold until it is dark and the outside temp is below 96 degrees. What are some thing I should be looking at to help resolve this problem.
