Limp Mode?

Sitting at a stop sign the car shuddered and went into limp mode. It now has the following codes:

P1780:00 Transmission Control Switch (O/D Cancel) Circuit Out Of Self Test Range ODDTC
P0750:00-AF Shift Solenoid 'A' CMDTC
P0753:00-AB Shift Solenoid 'A' Electrical CMDTC
P0755:00-AF Shift Solenoid 'B' CMDTC
P0758:00-AB Shift Solenoid 'B' Electrical CMDTC
P0760:00-AF Shift Solenoid 'C' CMDTC
P0763:00-AB Shift Solenoid 'C' Electrical CMDTC
P0765:00-AF Shift Solenoid 'D' CMDTC
P0768:00-AB Shift Solenoid 'D' Electrical CMDTC
P0770:00-AF Shift Solenoid 'E' CMDTC
P0773:00-AB Shift Solenoid 'E' Electrical CMDTC
P0962:00-AB Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Control Circuit Low CMDTC

Does this car have paddle shifters? If so most of the time it will be the clutch control solenoids for the dual clutch set up. AllData says the car has a regular automatic transmission, I would remove the main electrical connector at the transmission and check if for moisture or corrosion. If found clean it up with an electrical contact cleaner and then clear the codes. If that looks okay, it sounds like the main transmission control has gone out. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your quick and thorough response! No paddle shifters, plain vanilla transmission. I tried to remove the main electrical connector to clean it but couldn’t get it off. I stopped before I did any damage. Is there a trick to removing it?

There is a safety clip on the connectors that must be released as you pull upwards, Also, there is a weather pack seal which you need to wiggle to help remove. With all these codes you could have a bad PCM.

Hey Ken,

You were spot on about the PCM! I swapped it out for one from a junk yard. It’s no longer in limp mode and all the transmission codes are gone. The only ones I’m getting now are an ABS B2900-eo, (VIN mismatch) and an OBD P1000:00-2B (Systems Readiness Test Incomplete).

Additionally, the abs light and traction control light are on, I’m guessing because of the VIN mismatch. Would you suppose if I get a PCM coded with the proper VIN it will solve the problem?

It might, lets get the coding done and see what happens. It sounds like we are getting closer to a complete fix :)

Today I installed a PCM coded with the correct VIN. There are no longer any codes, and everything works as it should. Thanks for all your help!
