You may be able to remove the trim and the rear panel to access the lock. Once removed work the lock actuator rod to get the door open. You may have to replace the latch assembly. One the door is open you will be able to find out what happened.

You will need to remove the inside panel to release the latch by pulling on one of the release cables. Here are some diagrams of what I am talking about (below).

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

We are having the same problem but the biggest problem is we cannot get the panel off while the door is closed. Any helpful hints would be appreciated!

I suggest removing the drivers seat through the passengers side. I would remove the passengers seat as well. Sometimes a slight amount of damage to the door panel is normal.

Even if i was there to see this concern i would still have to remove the inner door panel to see whats happening inside the door.Could be the latch or bent or loose not connected rod.Your going to have to remove the inner door panel to have a look.

My keyless remote will not open or close the doors when I hit the button. Is there a program to reset it?

If the LED light on fob is not flickering when buttons are depessed, it would not work.
Registration of fob requires a scan tool.

If the alarm does not arm, you can check the fuses, door switches and ensure the key-on reminder is not indicating falsely.

my front doors won't open from the outside. It is like something came loose from the inside. I would like to fix them but I need a diagram to get the panel off and the inside mechanzim workings.

Hi:
I don't have a diagram for the panel, but there should be a few screws and clips that hold the panel on. You will also need to remove the arm rest (bolt) door handle, and windlo crank.

the outside door handles do not work. It is like something came loose inside door. There was no noise or restriction, one time it worked and the next it didn't.

if all the outside handles quit working, make sure the doors are unlocked. If only one quit working, there is a rod that connects the lock mechanism to the handle that is held in place by a plastic clip, it requires disassembly of door to repair in any event. good luck

I recently bough a 1997 Kia Sportage Ex with 103XXX miles. The backseat door behind the driver's seat used to only open from the inside and after several attempts to open it, I put on the child's lock to see if it would do anything and it locked from both the inside and the outside and now won't open at all. How do I unlock it?

other than taking the door panel off inside and actuating the mechanism by hand.......then repairing whatever is wrong inside

i've found this to work on stuck doors

try to the best of your ability, "unlock the door" (as if it would open)

since the child lock is on---the outside door handle is the only option (if it were working correctly)

have someone hold the outside handle open

lay something like a small piece of plywood on the door panel, flat as you can get it, as close to the rear of the door as possible.....this will spread out the load, maybe prevent damage to the door panel

lay down in the seat and give the plywood a good swift mule kick!

hopefully it will pop open, and you don't nail your buddy holding the handle on the outside!

after several attempts....sorta know when to quit...it may not happen

continuing to kick may damage something...including you!

i've done this on different cars for friends and family, even in the auto salvage yard when a door needed to be opened

let us know how it goes
