have the vehicle listed above with a 2.7 engine. at about 6,000 miles it started to have a low zone in the acceleration (I was thinking fouled fuel injector). After a dealer visit they said they could find nothing no codes returned. Now at 17,000 I went back as it got worse. This time they said they did see evidence of a problem and we did a fuel system service, injectors etc. While it improved drivability the car now has cold starting problem, it really coughs and chugs for about 30 seconds. Otherwise runs okay. Does it need another service or is a sensor like EGR or a fuel filter replacement problem the issue?

The fuel filter is under the car near the fuel tank on the drivers side.

Good afternoon,

It is under the car back by the tank. I attached pictures and the procedure for you.

Under the vehicle at the left front corner of the fuel tank.

Roy

1. Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel lines and hoses and perform the following operations.
Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector in the trunk room.
Start the engine and, after it stops, turn the ignition switch to OFF
Disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.
Connect the fuel pump harness connector.

2. Remove the two fitting nuts while holding the fuel filter nuts securely.

it acts like it is not getting proper amount of fuel or more like there may be water in the filter. so I need to know where the exterior fuel filter is to check that first.

Hello,

Your vehicle, if it has an inline fuel filter in addition to the the in-tank filter, will be located on the left side of the vehicle, just forward of the fuel tank. I have included fuel filter locations and graphics in the diagrams down below for you. Please go through these guides and get back to us with how everything turns out.

Thanks,
Alex

Good afternoon,

The filter is part of the fuel pump assembly.

It is located in the fuel tank itself. The fuel pump will need to be removed to gain access.

Roy

FUEL SENDER & FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the fuel tank cap to lower the fuel tank's internal pressure.
2. Raise the vehicle and disconnect the fuel pump connector, then remove the fuel feed and return line from the fuel pump assembly.

3. Remove the fuel pump installation screws, then remove the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank.
4. Remove the fuel sender & fuel filter from the fuel pump assembly.
5. Inspect and replace, if necessary.
