Door lock problem

Hi. I have a 2009 Honda CR-V. My right passenger door lock has recently "switched." When I automatically lock the doors, either with the fob or with the switch in the door, the passenger door unlocks. When I unlock the doors, it locks. This also happens when I am driving or when I park the car - the other doors lock and it unlocks. I can manually lock or unlock it. Any ideas what happened and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

Was any repairs done?
The polarity of the door lock actuator has been reversed, probably due to internal short and you need to reverse the two wires its motor.

I scanned the forum for this type of question without success. When we leave the car, sometimes all the doors will automatically lock, sometimes not. the time of occurrence varies, sometime withing 10 sec, other times we discover when we return to the car next. I'm sure auto locking is not a feature because this is a recent issue. Any guidance?

Thanks

Hi rossyowner,

You might have a faulty door lock switch which comes into contact to lock the door intermittently. You would have to remove the door panel to check the switch.

I have an update. While I was tinkering, because her "I left the lights on" chime, stopped chiming also, I noticed the doors lock when the over head dome light turns off (about 30 sec). Could that be the a faulty door switch? Drivers door? or any door?

The lights on reminder is activated by the driver door ajar switch.

Check if the door ajar light light comes on when the driver door is opened.

My driver side door won't lock at all. Not with the key, automatic door lock button on the door, or by pushing the lock down. The passengar side door also won't lock unless I push the lock down. I just bought the car 3 days ago. What's wrong with it and how can I fix it?

you are correct. neither of the front doors set off the door ajar light on the dashboard.
So, that is tied in with the lights on and doors locking?

any tricks to taking the door panels off? find the screws, get some replacement clips, anything else?

If it won't lock when you press the lock button on the door, it sounds like the linkage in the door has come apart. Have you removed the door panel to check it?

Get the door switch problem rectified first.

To remove the door panels, remove all the holding screws and the panel can be pried off.

Inner door panels.

Most inner door panels are attached the same, no matter what kind of car you have.

Generally the front, bottom and rear edge of the panel is held to the metal part of the door with plastic clips. Expect to break about 25% of these when you remove it.

The center part of the panel normally has a few screws that secure it. Sometimes they will have a small cover over them, often the size of a dime. Just for cosmetic reasons.

There will almost always be 1 or 2 screws attaching the pull handle, the place you grab onto to pull the door closed.
Most of the time, there will be a screw somewhere close to lever you use to open the door.
If your armrest is not molded into the door panel, there will be screws that attach it. Often at a 45degree angle coming from the bottom.
And finally, on rare occasion, there will be some screws near the speaker in the door, if you have one.
If you have manual windows, you'll have to remove the crank handle.

Armed with this information. This is how I remove a door panel that I am not familiar with.

First I remove all of the screws that I can see, and look for anything that may be a cap that is covering a screw.

Second I start at the bottom of the panel and try to pull it away from the door. As the plastic clips start to release, I work my way up along the front and rear edge of the door. Often during this step, I notice the center part of the panel is still attached by a hidden screw.

Finally, when the panel is free all the way around, grab the panel along the front and rear edges and pull straight up to get it to release from along where it touches the glass.

I hope this helps.

I’ve got two problems I would like to discuss:
1.I believe I have some water damage to my driver side door locks. The door will not unlock with the interior switch or the remote switch. Once the driver side door is unlocked, the remote switch will unlock all the other doors. Is this a fuse problem or has a circuit been damaged and need replacing? The door can be locked/unlocked manually with the door key.
2. When I leave my lights on and remove the key from the ignition, the lights on alarm/bell does not activate when I open the door. But on the other hand, if the keys are in the ignition in the off position when I open the door, the alarm/ bell will activate. Is this a fuse problem or another circuit problem?
Any help would be great….

Hi yetifordinner,

1 . When using the key to lock/unlock the drier door, does all the other doors lock/unlock?
If yes, you have a faulty door lock actuator.

2 . When the dirver is opened, does the dome light and door ajar indicator come on? If no, you have a faulty door switch.
