front hub bearing replacement instructions please?

The wheel bearing is only going to get worse. So I would not let it go for long. We can't tell you that you will be fine or not as it may fail tomorrow or a year from now.

I have a 2007 Dodge Caravan. I recently had the front brake pads replaced and everything seemed ok. It has been a couple of months and I am starting to get this horrible grinding sound in the front wheels when I decelerate from higher speeds. The sound is exasperated the higher the speed and the harder I apply the brakes. I am also noticing an abundance of blackish residue that builds quickly after cleaning. Please advise.

this could be a couple of things not necessarily brakes. have wheel bearings check first. Rust buildup and falling off will also cause this. Frozen calipers and cheaper brake pads wear faster. Ceramic pads are the best but more expensive. also the way people drive wear them faster. Look at brake pedal if left side of pedal is worn down you stop with your lieft foot and consequently your foot rides on brake pedal and the brakes are applied as it only takes 4 lbs of pressure to do this. so have your brakes checked to see what is exactly is. also if you are seeing black grease it may be a boot torn on the axle and throwing grease out of joint so it will probably have to be replaced.

Great. Thanks. I think it may very well be the bearings. The black is more like a residue than a grease. Very hard to remove. How do I know if it is the bearings and if it is, is it potentially a do it yourself project for a mechanically inclined individual? Also I drive with right foot only.

find an empty parking lot, drive in a circle one way and listen for noise then drive other way in circle listen for same thing if it's a bearing it will make a grinding or whining noise.most mechaniclally inclined people can do this. see pics

your wheel bearing will go where i've pointed out it may take what is called a torx bit to remove bolts. they will need to know if this is all wheel drive and if it has abs.. maybe a few other tings. all wheel drive bearings will be different so when yo go to parts store tell them what you have.

When i go to a store to purchase wheel bearing. They try to sell me the hight price to make extra money, I found on line its half price, But i do not know which one to purchase or screw and bolt sizes or if its abs, then they ask me all those questions about my van, I dont know if its front wheel or back wheel drive, n/a what size are those bolt and screws. Please reply.

Besides the wheel bearings they sell you at different prices are not to make extra money. if you see it online it is probably Chinese manufactured which is a low quality part and will fail quickly. I not they cannot fix or get the right part for your vehicle if you don't know what you have. nor do I know what size bolt/screws are, when I work on a vehicle I have my tools right there and because there are so many different applications unless I work specifically on your model I have no idea what you have. thanks you for using 2carpros.

i am having trouble removeing the old rear wheel hub assembly i got the 4 bolts off but it still wont budge can you please help me?

I think you'll need a rubber mallet and you'll have to keep hitting it until it budges, but first look on the inside just to make sure there isnt anything keeping it hung up

Had my '94 Dodge Caravan SE 3.3L V6 right-rear wheel cylinder reviewed & after leaving mechanic shop (10-15 mins) later my entire HUB was dismantled while driving. Towed car to shop for repair. Curious to know whether the individual made a costly mistake when re-mounting my wheel or is it known that a bad cylinder could lead to a bad HUB? No prior noise or vibration until the DRUM was removed to view leakage from the cylinder. Please advise. Thank you for your assistance.

no, a bad brake cylinder cannot lead to a bad drum, what I am pretty sure happened is, when they removed the drum they need to remove the bearing cap and bearings etc. when you put it back you need to repack the bearings with grease, without that grease, everything will heat up and decentagrate ( know I didnt spell that right) and literally take the whole tire off, I know because ,before i went to school for this, I did it to my own 93 grand caravan. bad situation

See Diagram is this the hub you question? if yes I know of noway a wheel cylinder replacement would cause hub to fail. Unless it was removed to make acess to cylinder easier. Did nut come off?

Im sorry I meant hub not drum

on these caravans the studs are in the drum and in order to remove the drum have to remove the dust cap,pin,cotter pin and bearings, it doesnt have a hub assembly

To add to the story, (hi guys), the drum is not meant to come off the hub. The two pieces are held together with the studs. The assembly is removed after removing the spindle nut and outer bearing. My guess is they pried the drum off, then didn't get it centered on the studs so the wheel worked loose while driving. The driver should have noticed the wobbling feeling and possibly heard the noise, but if not, the drum would now fall off if the wheel came off. Probably wrecked the backing plate.
