Use only T-IV Automatic Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 88900925, in Canada 22689186).

Drain and Refill .................... 2.1 liters (2.2 quarts)

Note: All capacities are approximate. When adding, be sure to fill to the appropriate level. Recheck fluid level after filling.

How much transmission fluid is needed when completely empty? Had nothing but major headaches with this car original dealer supposedly, they said put new transmission in car after purchase day one.The dealer obviously not. Nothing but major with it, it is losing the fluid somewhere see no leaks on driveway since purchased this hunk a junk from a dealership.
How much fluid does the transmission when completely empty? Is there a special type to use?

it holds 6.2 quarts of type T IV trans fluid just look for that type on can at auto parts. If it is leaking or using transmission fluid then check coolant for having oil in it the cooling line inside radiator may have broken and that is where it probably is going. your coolant tank may have an oily film on inside. otherwise there would be some type of oil leakage if external. when checking fluid do it with trans hot and fluid level should be between one and two.

With no prior warning my car would not shift. I heard a noise,pulled over and saw what i beleive was trans fluid. had it towed to amco, after gm told me I was still under powertrain warrenty had it towed to dealer. i was informed that my clutch "exploded" and there is a piece of metal stuck between starter and trans and it had blown a hole through my gear box... AND because it all started in the clutch ,that i am resposible.... what would cause a clutch to blow a hole in trans.?
The rep told the dealer he would cover half (approx $1000) as a good will gesture but this will still cost me $1700. Please help

I was reluctant to pay for advice as i feel i am getting ripped off by the minute. the dealer is keeping my $500. [CASH ONLY} deposit for taking my car apart !!!!! I think that the $15.00 would put me over the edge

depends on the company. mine (USSA) will cover a tire exploding.... im sue they would say something about a trans, though they may make the dealer cover it with their powertrain warrenty. just call you insurance agent, whats the worse they can tell you. what you need them to do is yell at the dealer
