Here is the instructions on how to replace the serpentine belt with a diagrams below.

REMOVAL
REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH
REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH
REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT
Using SST and 19 mm socket wrench, loosen the V-ribbed belt tensioner arm clockwise, then remove the V-ribbed belt.
SST 09216-42010
NOTE:Be sure to connect SST and the tools so that they are in line during use.
When retracting the tensioner, turn it clockwise slowly for 3 seconds or more. Do not apply force rapidly.
After the tensioner is fully retracted, do not apply force any more than necessary.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Inspect them every 6 months for cracks, excessive wear, otherwise they are OK.

You can either use the manual option to disengage the gear shift interlock system to enable you to shift to neutral.

Reinstall the battery, if it had been disconnected, and turn ignition switch on and depress the brake pedal to disengage the interlock system.

If battery is not disconnected and turning the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal does not allow you to disengage the interlock, check for a blown fuse.

I have a 2004 Toyota Camry LE. Recently I went to get my tires rotated and balanced and asked the service center to change my Serpentine Belt while they were doing it. The technician started to work with the belt and could not get the other one off. There is a bolt on the housing that has a very unique head. They did not have a tool in the whole shop that would fit this bolt.
Can a tool be purchased that will fit this head? If not, is there an adapter that can be purchased to make an existing tool work?
I just find it hard to beleive that the dealership is the ONLY place I can get my belt changed. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Take it to another shop, clearly this shop does not have appropriate tools. The tensioner uses a 19mm head, so any 19mm wrench or shallow socket will do.

The bolt, or screw in question does not have a standard or metric head. It is an odd shaped head that I have never seen before. See the attached photo. I hope you can see it.

Is the new alt a direct fit part? Is everything tight and the belt routed properly? Have you checked to make sure the belt tensioner is good and keeping the belt tight?

Hi mikelac, The Automatic Belt Tensioner Pulley arm has a hex head where you can turn to release the tension and remove the belt.

when changing belt use 19mm socket and ratchet to move tensioner, however due so slowly to allow fluid in tensioner to release slowly. 19mm nut can break if too much pressure is applied too fast. also, install new belt on all pulleys except water pump as belt will not slide over outer pulley rims.

Can someone tell me how to change the drive belt on my camry? Or at least tell me where to find the picture of how the belt should go (sometimes found under the hood). I could not find the drawing.

Hi there,

the rule of thumb is no more than 10 cracks per 1" of belt, but for my money, i would be just replacing it if it has any cracking.

I have a 2002 Camry XLE and when I turn on the air conditioning or heat, I hear a squeeling noise. My first thought is that the fan belt needs to be replaced. When I called the dealer, they said it would cost over $100 to replace it and suggested a timing belt change as well. I do have over $100K miles on the car. What do you think?

I would get a second opinion on the Belt as this price is a bit high, also get a price on the timing belt as this is due to be done, if this belt fails. you will do serious engine damage.

[quote:9fc0ac5196="DOUGEDGE"]I HAVE A 2002 CAMRY LE AND WANT TO CHANGE THE BELT MYSELF HOW DO YOU DO IT?[/quote:9fc0ac5196]

Find the alternator, they will be 2-bolts one at bottom and top of alty. Loosen these 2-bolts, now find the bracket connected to the alty- that has a long threated bolt and loosen it up-when new belt is on -reverse the sequence.

Make sure the belt is tracking properly on the pulleys. use your imagination on tightness of belt-find the longest span of the belt-press on it a quarter inch will do for tension-then you're home sweet home.

HTH Good Luck!

2003 Camry, 4 cyl., 95,000 miles. How do you replace the drivebelt? I've been told you need special tools, plus have to remove the tire, splash guards and control mounts. That sounds complicated for what should be a simple repair. On other cars and trucks I just needed a socket.

you do not need to remove the tire or splash shield.

this car has a hydraulic tensioner. toyota has a special tool for this but using a breaker bar with the right size socket will work as well. since its hydraulic you have to keep constant pressure on it until it collapses far enough to remove the belt.

btw, to previous poster, toyotas are some of the easiest cars to work on, but like anything else you have to know what you're doing.
