I returned from a month long vacation to discover that my Suzuki won't start. It sounded like it was trying to turn over, but couldn't. I had it towed to the garage and now they are saying that the timing chain broke and severely damaged the engine. The car was running perfectly before I left, and there were no warning signs. Is this possible?

yes it's possible the chainor belt could have broken just shutting the engine off. probably bent some valves.

Thanks for the info. Any idea why the chain/belt would go on a car with such low mileage? Maintenance has all been up to date.

if it's a belt if oil got on it it will shorten the life dramatically if it's a chain it's possible the tensioner broke and or pulley wore out.
