I'm getting this strange noise coming from what sounds like the front of the vehicle. It's like this weird metallic rubbing/winding type of sound when I let up on the gas pedal. I also notice but not 100% sure, appears to decelerate quickly with this strange noise too. I can also hear it when the vehicle gets up to speed past 40 and the sound correlates to vehicle speed. When I slow down from a stop I can hear the weird sound but at a slower speed as the vehicle slows down.
I've done the following:
replaced the rear diff, transfer case, and front diff fluid with Peak synthetic 75-90 gear oil. Had a very small tiny piece of shaving from front diff but that's it.
replaced the rear diff with a used one from a 06 with 74K miles. Rear diff whine appears to be better now.
Inspected front wheel hubs both move smooth/no gritty or roughness, and no play when shaking the tire from the 12 and 6 position.
I inspected the front brakes - guide pins, caliber, pads and rotor all good.
I don't get any strange vibrations when braking or turning. The engine runs smooth and shifts normal.
