Alright let me stop you right there just because you set a certain code does not mean you can just go by the part the code is related to and replace and the code is gone and wont come back. The code sets to let you know there is a problem with that circuit or system etc., of that part of the car .I wish it was that easy, lol. What is the exact code number you have not code description?

Okay, it is PO496. AutoZone explains it is has detected pressure in the EVAP system during a non purge condition. purge or vent solenoid failure.

I posted a diagram of where the canister purge solenoid is its figure 2. Most likely from the code you have there three most likely causes a stuck open canister purge solenoid and stuck closed vent solenoid or a stuck fuel tank pressure sensor showing vacuum on the tank when there really is not. Or bad wiring to the pressure sensor. I take it you do not have a scanner to read the fuel tank sensor? Lets start by removing the hoses from the canister purge solenoid and with the key off see if you can blow through it? Let me know what you find.

The only number we care about is number two, that is your canister purge solenoid that turns the vacuum from the engine on and off from the engine to the gas tank. All the other ones have nothing to do with your code. All i want you to do is unhook the two hose from the number two call out then blow air with your mouth through the solenoid. If you can blow air through it it is bad and you will have to replace it. You could also go to AutoZone and rent a hand vacuum pump hook the hose to one of the nipples of the solenoid and pump the hand pump to pull a vacuum. If the vacuum holds solenoid is not sticking open at least while you are testing it.

Here is a link to that hand vacuum pump i am talking about I would just use my mouth though a lot easier then renting a hand vacuum pump. If you have to use a piece of short hose that fits tightly to the solenoid nipple.

Hey man, I just tested the valve as you said (to blow on it) and in the beginning I could blow through it, I smashed it two times in my hand and I could not blow though it anymore. so I put it back in. I disconnected the battery and now the engine light went off. if it comes back again I will replace the valve all together. what do you think?

Sounds like the valve was stuck open like i suspected and you broke it free so it would close. I always replace them when they stick open but if you want to wait and see if it sticks again to replace it that is up to you. Most likely it will stick again.

Yes there is. when was the last time you changed the fluid? how many miles ago was that? Also, if the transmission does not have any leaks then the level should not have changed and should not be low.

I cannot see the level. Just got the car. I am not sure when was the last time it was changed I just want to be safe. it has 84,000 miles so I assume it is time. and since it only need to drain it, I just do not see where i can fill it up after because I do not see the dipstick in the engine.

I have never replaced one of those bulbs before. It says you have to remove the rear window shelf trim panel and that it is serviced as a assembly. Looks like you have to pop the seat bolsters etc., loose to remove it. Looks like a real project.

You have to drop the gas tank. it is on the top side of the tank. So why are you changing the pressure sensor?

I do not see why that code would be related to the fuel smell. Can you see any fuel leaking underneath the car?

To diagnose the code the first thing is to see what the fuel pressure sensor is reading with the scan tool key in the run position with the engine off and the fuel cap off? You probably do not have a scan tool that will do that? Also, you could have a blocked fuel tank vent. That hose is usually right by the fuel tank filler pipe. If you are smelling raw fuel after the car is shut off more then likely you have a leak somewhere vapors or liquid fuel.

You are going to have to get under the car and start looking for the leak. The smell is coming from the rear? I do not know of any known common fuel leaks on those cars.

If it is in the back and you cannot see old fuel stains or a leak it is probably somewhere on the top of the gas tank.

Yep, you have a leak in the system. Did you check the gas cap seal? This is the most common place. Here is a guide that will help you get started:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/evap-system-code-repair

Please run down this guide and report back.

Cheers, Ken

Okay go over the guide to check the system for leaks which usually happen up by the engine. Check the connection the O rings wear out. Here is a video and diagrams below to help you fix the problem.
