Hello,

It sounds like the output shaft (VSS) is not working or plugged in here is the location so you can see whats going on. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

1993 Nissan Sentra 1.6 Auto 137K miles The speedometer doesn't work. I had some information that the speedometer sensor could be bad. I can see the sensor sitting on the top of the transmission near the driverside firewall. The sensor is held on by one screw and is plugged into the harness. I removed the screw and cannot seem to remove. I have no engine codes showing. How do you remove? Did I jump the gun by trying to replace or is their a better way to fix?

I have a 1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R 2.0L 4cyl, w/ 5 spd Manual transmission. I just purchased this car for a friend and realized while driving that the speedometer doesn't work! I replaced the sensor and the speedometer cluster itself and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Which sensor did you replaced? The speedometer assy called the VSS or at transaxle called Digital Speedometer Speed Sensor.

I replaced the sensor on top of the transmission. I has a 2 wire plug(green/red). I'm not sure what VSS is, but I don't know.

At the tranny sensor-remove it get an ohmmeter put lead on the sensor wire and spin the sensor your reading should be fluctuating continuty and infinity

If it checks out

Don't put sensor back in, at the computer pin no.32 yellow and green wire, while key is in On position spin the sensor while looking for a fluctuating 0-10volts

No voltage fluctuating-you have a problem with the computer.

Electrical problem
1991 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 155 k miles

my car's speedometer is not working.i took the car for a drive and it was working fine, but then the speedometer dropped to 0. and hasnt moved at all. i stopped and checked the fuses, none of them were damaged.the car starts and runs fine.and rpm gauge and every other gauge works fine, its just the speed and odometer that wont work, its not digital. this has happened to me before, but it was a popped fuse,i replaced it and it worked fine.but now, its not the fuses. i think it might be a sensor, but do the sensors really fail so easily? need help please.

Follow the speedometer cable both ends down to the tranny and behind the speedometer-you need to open it up to inspect-also get a repair manual this one can be tough to deal with its not a simple fix

Remove the assembly where you see all the lights and check behind the speedometer head I've been here before with this sentras. If you're unable to bring it in.

do u mean to remove the speedometter? like the whole cluster thing?becuase ive done that before, and behind there i see a hole that i think plugs into something when i put the cluster back in.and also there is a cable that connects back there.
i have checked the fuses, and none are popped.everything reads good, even the rpm needle, but the speed needle and odometer wont move, so im thinking its that hole thats in the back right?something might have happened?i dont know where the speedometer cables are.plus i heard that some cars are cable and some are sensors? how do i know what my car is?

If its cable operated it might be broken between the transmission and speedometer head, or its not engaging the the tranny or the speedometer head.

Electronically operated-check the vehicle speed sensor at tranny-

I have a 1998 Nissan Sentra about 90K miles. Recently the odometer and trip gage stopped working. The speed indicator and trip gauge are working fine. What could be the problem?
I have checked the fuses. They all are fine.

Is the trip gauge working or not working? Also, is your odometer digital or analog?

Trip Gauge is Not working. (both Trip gauge and Odometer are NOT working) Both are digital or a group of numbers that roll up mechanially not electrical numbers that turn off when you turn off the car.

nissan had a recall on this. loosen (check for corrosion) the screws on the back of the cluster and make sure they're tight. If OK the others clusters were usually needed (if speedo doesn't go out - that would be VSS) if necessary you can resolder broken wire on back of cluster.
