Hello, I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ES with the CVT transmission. Recently the transmission seems to be making a whirring noise and feels like it wants to down shift when accelerating, possibly slipping a little. I have to check service records but I am not sure if the transmission fluid has been changed. Is this something we should try first? I read on another forum that someone had this similar issue and changed the fluid and the transmission did not work right after. Apparently there was a build up in the original transmission fluid that was actually protecting it and when they changed the fluid it lost this. Does that sound reasonable? Obviously we want to correct this before it becomes a full blown need to replace a transmission problem. We bought this car new in 2008 and have not ever had any other issues. thank you.

trans guy scan for codes make sure it is full of fluid if you can check it. there is a solenoid in there that is one of the main failure components and it may not be holding well.

Thank you I will try that. Obviously the solenoid would be much cheaper to replace than the whole transmission.

true but there are two large failure things in a cvt the other is the chain if I remember correctly if memory serves me correct but it can be anything so don't let that scare you
