Are you able to lock it with the remote?

Does manually locking the doors works the power locking system?

There may be a fault in the Alarm system or Body Control Module, BCM.
I am providing you with its set operation functions and what requirements must be met for everything to work and then what to expect to see when it is working right.
Diagrams of the locations of all components and anything else necassary.
The first thing to do is to have the trouble codes checked and replace the battery in the Remote Key fob. Advance Auto and Auto Zone will pull the trouble codes for free. This will tell you if one of the components has failed.
If no codes are present. There are some diagnostic suggestions. However the other thing to do is check connections to componets for corrosion, loose terminals or any problems that would keep signal from reaching it.
From there the grounds for the components would need to be checked.

The chart shows what you need to do.

I would suspect a faulty door lock switch and would suggest testing those first.

You need to perform testings to diagnose the cause and I would suggest starting with checking the door lock switches.

Door lock switches in this instance means the door lock actuator switch, which is inside the door panel. You need to test if the switches are signalling the BCM that the door lock is being opened or closed.

I can not get the door panel off without trashing it and I really do not want to do that. I have tried to use the fob and the key but it is locked and I do not know what to do or how to fix it. Do I have to remove all the mouldings to get to the door panel screws on the bottom of the panel? Also, if I do manage to get the panel off, how will I be able to remove the locking mechanism from the door if it is locked?

you will have to get the door panel off form the inside. However it may be just a clip broken form a rod that is why it won't work. Once you get the panel off you should see a couple of rods , one going to the door lock and one going to open the latch. check to see if there is a rod fallen off for the lock, usually the culprit. then reach hand or some kind of tool there to unlock the latch then open door. if it's a clip they are usually found in auto parts like the help stuff unless kia is completely different. Unfortunately there are no pics of door or regulators.

you should be able to remove the door panel at least enough so that you can manually unlock the door to open it then remove entire door panel and replace actuator.

I had the same problem with my 2002 Kia Rio and I know you can not get the door panel off while the door is in the shut position. What I did, after trying everything (this may sound like car abuse but) was kick the door open. One kick did it cleanly with no damages.

Once the door was open I took the panel off and found out the lock was jammed because of a broken spring which returns a little lever to an up position. However If this lever is not returned to the up position, ironically it locks the door lock in the lock position. This keep the actuator or even a manual lock from being able to be unlocked.

Thus I went to Home Depot and bought a pack of lots of random sized springs for about 3 to 4 bucks and used one of the springs to apply the necessary tension on the lever. Saving me hundreds of pennies. You can use a totally different type of spring and you can also attach it anywhere as long as its securely fastened and out of the way of moving parts i.e. the moving glass window and other moving parts.

My driver-side door lock is not unlocking. I turn the key to unlock. The key turns and the lock switch moves, but not enough to "click" and unlock the door. By pulling up on the lock switch, it comes up, but again, not enough to unlock. It feels stuck. I was able to spray WD-40 down the lock switch shaft and into the lock itself throught the key hole, and it worked for awhile, but the same problem happened again. I do not have power locks.

spray it again with WD40 and keep using the key a few times in the lock to work in the lubricant

Over here the job is done mostly by accessory or auto electrical shops.

If vehicle is not equipped with any central locking system, you would need to remove all the door panels to install the actuator. As the unit you have bought is after market, you would most probably need to have the actuators installed away from the door lock and might require some drilling to fit.

As to the wiring, you would need to refer to the manual or booklet that comes with the set.

2006 Kia Rio

I have a manual car lock. We recently removed the plastic frame to put in a new window (in case that IS part of the reason). I drove around all day, locking and unlocking my car just fine. When I got out the last time, the door lock was in the unlocked position. I went to push it down to lock it, but it wouldn't budge! It was totally stuck somehow. So the door won't lock or close (and someone said my latch seemed to move just fine). It's currently tied closed with some bondage rope.

Help me, please!
