recently, my wife and i noticed that the tranny on our tucson was acting funny. shifting a little harder, whinning when you let off the gas. then a couple of days ago, the check engine light came on. I'm in the navy off on training in florida while my wife and three kids are in virginia. so i tell her to take it to aamco to get the light checked. they are saying that the ratio between 2nd and 3rd gear are out of wack. Now they tell us that it needs to be rebuilt at a cost of $3000. when we noticed the tranny acting funny, i checked the fluid and it was low so i added more to the line on the dipstick. ( i come from a redneck family in arkansas so i know basic maintenance) aamco says that the fluid is burnt and hyundai says the warranty wont cover it if the fluid is burt. so my question is, is it really needing a rebuild and is it really going to cost me 3 grand? or are they trying to take advantage of my wife being a girl without a man there?
any help would be awesome
