Need more detail than that. Was it just rebuilt and reinstalled and it's not going into gear right away? That should be addressed by the person who rebuilt it. Was it working properly for a little while, then this problem just started suddenly? If so, most likely the shifter cable became disconnected.

This guide can help us fix it.

My vehicle will drive in reverse but when I put it in drive it will move as if it wants to go forward but the passenger side front tire will not budge. What could this be?

I can drive it in reverse but not in drive. It seems like something is holding the passenger side front tire in place. I think it may be the sway bar, because I had a similar problem on another car. What do you think?

Good afternoon.

First, jack up the right side and see if the wheel turns.

The brakes may be locked up preventing it from moving. It will go backwards but not forward.

Try that and get back to me. You may have a bad caliper or brake hose not returning fluid to the master cylinder.

I raised it up and its the back tire. Some how the caliper on the back tire is scrubbing the inside of the rim. Do I need a new hub bearing?

I just put a Valve Timing Solenoid, all six coils, plugs, valve gasket , cleaned throttle, and had a transmission and new toque convert put in my vehicle in last six months. Ran perfect for two days. It starts and runs fine. But when I put it in reverse yesterday it would shut off and start right back. I'm lost on this. I don't want to drive it to see if it shuts off any other time since I always have my child with me.

After I took the tire off. I discovered the bolt connecting the caliper to the frame had come out.

I want to thank you for your help. You are amazing. Thank you again.

Hello,

This could be your vehicle's lock up solenoid or speed controlled solenoid. The transmission uses these solenoid to shift gears and lock up the torque converter into lockup making the engine to torque converter ratio 1 to 1. I have included a diagnostic troubleshooting guide from the factory in the diagrams down below. Please go through them and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

It starts and runs fine. When I put it into gear it doesn't go anywhere. I can put it in drive and reverse and take my foot off the break, doesn't move. When I put it in gear and put my foot on the gas it still goes nowhere. It had 207,000 mile on it.

Check the automatic transmission fluid level.
Check the linkage from the shifter to the transmission lever (on the transmission). To do this (with the engine off)
Set the park brake.
Have an assistant to hold the brake pedal and shift the lever from PARK to REVERSE and then to DRIVE, several times.
While this is going on you should look underneath the vehicle to see if the transmission shift lever is moving (it is located on the driver's side of the transmission - about 4-5 inches from where the engine and transmission bolt together).

Does the shifter feel more loose than normal?
If so, the small grommet in the end of the shifter cable gets brittle from the transmission heat and breaks apart. This is fairly common on these models. (But of course, each case is different).
If it is not shifter related then its likely an internal problem (such as a broken or disconnected link to the manual shift valve)
How was the transmission acting just before it started this problem?

What had happened was, I was on my way home and the vehicle started chugging. So I took my foot off the gas. When I put my foot on the gas it wasn't doing anything. So I pulled over to the side of the road and stopped. When I stopped I lost all power. So I turned the key off and tried to turn it back on and nothing happened. Got it home, charged the battery and the it starts up and keeps running. When u put it in gear it won't go. Checked everything from fluids, fuses and wireing. Its all fine.

Is the "Service Engine" light on?
With the scenario you described there should be a computer code stored in memory. If so, that code will give us a great place to start tracking down this problem.

I have the vehicle listed above it won't reverse. It seems like the wheels lock up or something when you put it in reverse. It also will go forward when in in neutral, and it's not just rolling a little in neutral if you apply the gas pedal it will drive forward like it's in drive. It will go into 4x4 and drive just fine and seems to shift just fine. it has gotten stuck in 4x2 I'm assuming because the vehicle has to be in neutral to switch into 4x2. It seems like it's just not catching on one of the gears when you shift it from park, reverse, neutral, and drive. It also goes into third and drive forward second it goes forward and first goes forward. I have notice when shifting into second and first when I'm I have the brake applied it's almost like it's going to run out of room to move the back to second and first. I'm wondering if it could be anything to do with the shifter (in the vehicle) like a linkage cable or something? I just had to transmission fluid flushed and new filter it was pretty thick and dirty but the person that did it said there was not metal or metallic in it and that was good. Please any advice or help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Good evening,

It sounds like you have a clutch pack in the transmission that is stuck applied. It could be the forward clutch.

Since the fluid was bad, very good possibility the transmission will need to be removed and inspected for an internal failure.

This could be one of two things, either the transfer case is broken, or the front differential is having problems.

While in four wheel drive, in drive and while the sounds is being generated, have a helper watch the front drive shaft, if the shaft is spinning without the car going anywhere, the front differential is broken. If the drive shaft is still and the noise is being made the transfer case is hurt and needs to be dissembled.

Does the PCM control the reverse in the transmission. The vehicle won't go in reverse. Won't shift out of 2nd. Gear until you release the throttle.

Drove to work no problem at all, backed into spot and at end of the day pulled out of spot and it started making a whirring sound. I put truck into reverse to back into spot, and nothing no reverse. All forward gears seem to work, whirring noise is only in park neutral and reverse it goes away when in drive. It is showing a vehicle speed sensor code also.

I doubt the sensor is causing the no reverse problem. have a transmission professional look at it. I have seen that failure many times in these transmissions, its an internal issue and will need a rebuild, I believe it has something to do with a planetary gear set breaking

When shift into reverse it does not engage and it makes a loud grinding noise.
After approx. one hour, symptom disappeared. Reverse ok. Then had transmission work done.
5,000 miles later, symptom appeared again. After letting car sit for a couple of hours, symptom disappeared. Returned to Transmission shop. They test drove…worked fine. They dropped the pan, took a look at transmission again and said it was totally clean and no apparent problem that they could see.
Approx 5,000 miles later, symptom appeared again. This time I drove on highway. While gliding down hill, if over 50mph, the similar grinding noise heard. When I gave it a small amount of gas, noise disappeared. I pulled over, on downhill grade, put it in park, and the car glided forward (park did not engage). I stepped on the brake and the car stopped and park engaged. Reverse was still not working. Park engaged ok after that.
Drove 60 miles to destination. Parked, tested the reverse and all symptoms gone…engaged in reverse properly.
Took to Transmission shop again. They test drove for long time…could not get symptoms to reappear. Transmission fluid ok. They baffelled and now recommend to have cable replaced that runs from shifter to transmission. …no promises.
Are we missing something?

To be honest, I think they are on the right track. Since it wouldn't engage into park leads me to believe the linkage on the transmission isn't properly moving. Thus, the transmission is getting stuck between gears. They should be able to inspect the trans linkage to determine if it is fully shifting without just replacing the cable.

IF it is between gears, it could. Also, if the parking sprag isn't fully releasing, that can make a noise.

I have a 1999 S-10 Blazer, 4WD, 4.3L V6 engine, Auto.

While driving tonight, I noticed that the rpm's were higher than normal at highway speeds. I stopped at the store and upon restarting the engine, I had no reverse. I had forward gears to get home luckily.

The rest of the trip home, I noticed that it revved VERY high before shifting from first to second.

Are the rough shifts and lack of reverse related? If so, does anyone know what the problem could be?

PLEASE don't tell me I need a new tranny.....
