2008 Chevrolet Equinox Bushings

I just had my tires installed on my 2008 Chevrolet Equinox and they did a courtesy check on my car. They said that I need to have the Bushings replaced (both Lower-Front).
This is what they listed K200783 LO CTRL ARM BUSH/KIT
Remove & replace F control arm
Bushing-Lower, Both Sides, All Four
System Failure - Required

What are the bushings?
What happens if I don't replace them?

they are mountings from the lower arm to the frame. when they wear out, there is excessove play. your front end is loose, alignment is off wearing out tires and will become dangerous to drive as it will wander all over the road.
