engine light on past week in 2008 a-3 cold start car runs poorly and light flashes for few seconds. car runs fine after warm but light stays on

If the light is staying on, there is a hard code stored in the computer. What you need to do is have the computer scanned to identify where the issue is coming from. Many parts stores will scan them for free, so you may want to start there.

Have that done and let me know what you find.
