I would do a scan for any codes first and just make sure all electrical plugs that you have undone are tight. There are simply too many things that can cause this to just guess or throw parts at it

See the guide below

What is the engine code / size of engine?

Yes, that could be a crankshaft position sensor... the engine will not start if there is a problem with that sensor.

you should get a code if that sensor is faulty.

Is the engine running? Was the engine overheating when you had the initial problem?

First be sure all your connections are clean and tight. It may be the starter isnt liking the cold weather and is drawing more amperage than your battery can supply. You can have a cranking draw test done on the starter to see how much it is pulling, but I suggest you do this when it is cold out so it is the same conditions of when it is failing

listen to your car's pump. If you hear it check for the spark, if you don't see the spark, look into possibly replacing plugs, wires, cap or rotor. Hope you'll get it running soon.

Hello
I have a 2006 vw polo 1.4 tdi, and I'm having a bit of a problem to solving a fault in which the engine sometimes won't start, the engine cranks at a good speed, and after a few tries it starts. I replaced the heater relay and checked fuel press all seems ok no faults are showing.
Any idea what the problem might be?
Regards
Matthew

If you crack an injector line do you have fuel pulse on cranking? Compressions ok, maybe a fuel drain back problem, any signs of fuel leak around the injection pump?

There are no signs of any leaks, cannot check for fuel pulses since this is a pompe duse engine, compression seems ok too, replaced the camshaft sensor but still problem remains. Some times it starts for a second then goes dead again, and after many more tries it fires up. Have checked all wiring for damage and cleaned all connections found, I'm now starting to give up

My car has starting problem at any time of the day, the engine cranks after may 5 times trying I then remove the inlet petrol pipe to the injectors, I start it and it works. I then switch of the engine and put back the petrol pipe and start it again it starts without a problem. I repeat these steps every time it has this problem and it always work. My car is a polo classic 2001.

If you remove the inlet pipe to the injectors, why is there no petrol leak?

I'm not sure you are removing a fuel line... can you post a picture of what you are removing?

Engine does not start. We replaced the motor with another one. All the wiring has been put back exactly the same way as it was. The engine turns perfectly but does not start. I have checked the plugs for a spark and there is none

Please advise

I recently bought a new battery but the car still does not start after driving it. I currently work 10min away from home so the car only drives weekends and not far distances. I have a full alarm system on my car and that also died on me yesterday and the driver side central locking only works the other doors buttons we have to lock manually. It's a second hand car and I have it for 6 months now. When I bought the car it worked fine. When this problem started I had the throttle replaced, bushes on the gears, a new battery and battery cables. I am running out of answers. I had my car at a auto electrician who advised that I should replace the coolant temp sensor but all electrical components of my car is dead. please help me!!!!!

Hello MOEKIE,

It sounds like the alarm system is having a problem not allowing the car to start. When the engine wont start is the security light flashing? If so and alarm module needs to be replaced which was a problem on these cars

So I'm having a problem with my 1998 VW Polo. The car stopped for the first time and didn't work until we found the problem: the Starter (engine). So we changed it, and it worked well for 2,3 days until the third day when he (about 2 minutes after started working) started to lose power until dead state. And never turned on again. Can you help me identify the problem or possibly give me some guidance lines so I can solve this problem? Very appreciated and sorry for the bad English but I'm Portuguese and my written English isn't as good as before.

Your English is fine. As far as the new problem, does the starter engage and turn the engine? If it does, have you checked to see if there is spark and fuel to the engine?

Yes, the starter engage the engine and the spark plugs were testes and they are fine. Battery is all good to. So I'm turning now to the fuel pump or the fuel pump fuse, but I don't know how to proceed with both..

Try this... see if the engine will start using starting fluid. If it starts for a couple seconds and then stalls, that tells me it is a fuel supply issue. Do this and let me know what you find.
