I know I need to replace the long block in my gti because a mechanic found metal shavings in the oil pan. Said it was a bearing or something that went bad and that replacing the engine would be the best option. My main question is about compatibility of engines I can use. The 5th digit of my Vin is "v". I was told that makes a difference. I found a used long block out of a 2006 jetta gli with the 5th digit being "j". They are both 2.0L turbo fsi so I'm just wondering if that would work for the replacement. If not, does the 5th digit have to match mine or is there any other compatible options?
