PS light on

this is a v6 rav4. P/S light comes on in red at start up occasionally. Only at start up. Turn car off for 5 seconds, restart and its ok. Then it may happen again in a month. Toyota dealer says need to replace ECU. Is that the same as the ECM and can I buy online and replace it myself. If so does it have to be programmed by dealer?

Hello,

The ECU they are referring to the for the electronic power steering here is a wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works and the EPS ECU which will need to be programmed to the car.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
