2007 Toyota Highlander overheating

this problem is new to this car, it overheats even while static. its an hybrid car. the coolant level is normal, i cant find any leakage. a mechanic suggested its the thermostat. pls what do you think could possibly be the issue?

Are the fans working normally?
Check the radiator hoses. If the upper hose is hot whereas the lower hose is cool to the touch, most likely the thermostat is stcuk.

the fans are perfect,..but just as u said, i tested it, the upper hose is very hot (can't touch for 5seconds), but the lower hose is cool (can hold on to it for 5minutes). Now that we are narrowing it down to the thermostat, can i just remove the thermostat completely? what will be the implication if i run my hybrid jeep without a thermostat? appreciate your swift response, its helping a lot!

The above link explains how the thermostat works. You can remove the thermostat completely but it is not what I would recommend. Without the thermostat the engine operating temperature inconsistent an that usually affects fuel consumption and performance.
