I had changed my gas cap and the check engine light came on and then changed it back and reset the light by undoing the battery cables now car idles rough what do i do?

first of all, we need the code and you need to stop playing with it. by disconnecting the battery, you wiped out all adaptive memories for the computer to control the engine. it will come back when it re learns.

stop re setting the light till you know what is wrong and it is repaired correctly..
