Why wont my car start?

Hi,

I was driving when one of my headlights went out then a day later driving back in the dark so i had to drive with my full beam on. Then the car shut down and said engine management fault so i turned the car off then it turned back on first time. The following day i tried to turn my car and it wouldnt fire up, it was ticking off but not firing. Im really stuck what this is if you could help me it would be much appreciated.
