Saturn Hybrid Test Possible?

Your best shot, is take it to the dealership and have it tested there-

Just to add to this one what is the exact code number your getting?

Code is U 0120- lost communication with Starter/Generator-
Question still is, can this module be tested by itself, dealership or tech joint. Say I bought one from a junk yard, could it be tested with out having to hook it up to a car to get input? Is there a procedure, a testing device that would be implemented to see if the module is any good before installing it?

I didnt have a tester to test that module at the saturn dealer all the tests are a combonation of the tech2 scan tool readings and testing ohms readings voltage readings etc of the circuits on any of the hybrid system with a multimeter.There is no easy test like your hoping for i cant find that code you listed in my online data repair.Your best bet like rasmatz said bring it to the dealer.These hybrids arent for the do it yourselfers they require a tech2 with the correct software to get the correct codes out and to see the readings of what your working on.Also a safety issue with the hybrid they have a lot more voltage and danger.I love helping people fix there cars thats why iam on this site but in this case honestly your better off talking it in to the dealer.

Thank you very much for the replies- I certainly do agree- this car is not for the do it yourselfers nor most regular mechanics-I already had the car in to the dealer after plying with it as much as I could- Dealer gave me an estimate of $83 to diagnose the code U 0120- After they started looking at it they called to say they needed another hour at $160 because tech was having trouble and needed to call Saturn- (dealer is mainly a Chevrolet but they are an authorized Saturn dealer) Long story short, module is bad, 6 days to get part and $1100 bill- Saturntech9, you explanation of the testing procedure somewhat justifies the long diagnostic process but Saturn had no business dumping this experimental turd on the consumer market- Hard lesson for my daughter to learn on her first car buying venture- In a perfect world the creep used car salesperson that unloaded it on her would have to put his own family in it.

Glad to hear you took it in and got it all figured out.If you think working on that is a nightmare saturn in california where i live marketed the gm ev1 full electric car and i was lucky enough to be one of the trained ev1 techs not lol.It had 27 batteries 7 computers and like 500 trouble codes.

saturntech9- thanks for the tip on what to avoid- Can't even imagine the complexity of ev 1- I love the idea of electric cars but maybe not until they get them past the Apollo 13

They were alot of fun to drive instant excelleration i can also say i worked on barry manilows and susan summers ev1 but other then that alot of headaches lol.
