Does the transfer seal need to be removed to replace the torque converter. I spent over $2000 to replace the torque converter and now the transfer seal is leaking and causing fumes when it drips onto the engine. They want $385 to replace the transfer seal.

do you mean the oil pump sealon transmission? if the converter wasn't lubed when installed it could have torn the seal causing the leak.

They replaced the Torque converter and then we started having a burning odor come from the engine.

They say the Shaft seal is leaking. This was not happening before the Torque converter was replaced.

They said it is the Intermediate Shaft Seal where the right axle goes into the Power Train Take Off unit.

it had to be removed when the trans was removed to install new torque conveter. they are supposed to use a seal protector when reinstalling shaft see pic. whether that was done or not is the question. that could have damaged the seal needing it's replacement. if it was done at a dealer complain to ford.
