No electrical ?

This could be a number of reasons but if there is no electrical power at all when you turn the key on then you either have an issue with the battery terminals, or a fuse issue.

This means we need to review the wiring diagrams below and check the fuses and for voltage coming from the battery.

Also, we are going to have to test the alternator just to be sure it is okay. Here is a guide that will help with this:

Pulling on the knobs for the trunk or the hood do not work. Power locks doe not work, so the car will not lock. Not sure what could it be. Any ideas?

This sounds like a dead battery or a bad connection, either at the battery or the other ends where the battery cables connect to components.

Sitting at a stop light, foot on the brake, the vehicle just turned off. No power to anything, not even the "theft" light on the dash board. After pulling the keys out and then attempting to restart, some of the dash lights came back. When trying to start it up, the lights were intermittent and flickering quite a bit. I could hear solenoids or relays making clicking noises as well as what sounded like some sort of motor or pump trying to turn on back near the trunk, but nothing worked.

Pulled away from a stoplight the other night and the car died. Stopped the car, put it in park and cycled the ignition key and nothing happened. Had lights and accessories, but the engine wouldn't turn over. Tried it a few more times and no luck. Waited a few minutes and tried again and it started right up. Took the car straight home and parked it in the garage.
Went to use the car a couple of days later, went to the garage and started the car, then went in the house. Came back 10 minutes later and the car had died while I was inside. Cycled the ignition key -had all lights and accessories, but when the key is turned all the way, nothing happens. Cycled the key several times and finally got a connection and it started. I then shut it off and it hasn't started since -and boy I've been turning that key back and forth! Everything on the dash looks normal when you stick in the key and begin to turn it, but "seems" as if there's no electrical connection being made to engage the starting circuit. There's no sounds at all, not even a click from the engine.
I'm thinking the car has a bad ignition (solenoid? -the harness & apparatus on the steering column that plugs into the back of the ignition key housing?). After all I'm reading about on the various newsgroups I'm not sure if there's something else that may be interfering with the starting process. Any ideas?

Oh, by the way, the theft light is continuously flashing. I don't drive the car that much (my wife does) and I'm wondering if, once you use the electronic key to unlock the car, shouldn't the theft light go out?

I dont mean to be simple, but have you checked your battery? Try giving it a jump-start or something (charge battery, try a newer one..etc) and see if that makes a difference.

The battery has better than 12 volts and I even tried a jump. Wouldn't even give me a click.

The description of this problem perfectly matched something that happened to our 2002 Taurus. After looking at about every exotic problem I could think of (Ifnition Switch, Lock, ad. nauseum), it turned out to be the starter. I know this answer is long after the fact, but I hope it helps someone else.
