accelerates hard when put into drive or reverse

My 07 freestyle accelerates hard then drives normal only accelerates when u put it into gear. when u put it into gear it accelerates hard u have to hold down the brake or it will go on you but after it does that it drives normal

Hello,

This sounds like an issue with the throttle body.
Your vehicle uses drive by wire/electronic throttle body. So there is not physical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle body.
It operates by electrical signals.
When the electronic throttle body goes bad it can trigger erratic accelerations or might not accelerate at all.
The issue is usually the electronic throttle control module that is mounted on the throttle body.
