Hello,

Here is a guide to help walk you through the step of changing the serpentine belt with a diagram belt to show the routing.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Engine Mechanical problem
2005 Dodge Magnum V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
How do i get the tension out of the belt to replace it? I looked at the tensioner, but it doesn't seem to have a place to put on a breaker bar/wrench in order to reduce the belt tension.

Hi:
Are you sure you are looking at the tensionier and not an idler pulley. Check out the drive belt routing diagrams site on this page. Put in the car info and they will provide the info you need.

Let me know if this helps.

Should the belt coming around the alternator be easily compressed to the point that the input side and output side touch and tensioner moves r/t v8 5.7 liter hemi

Attached image (I hope) showing event. Belt segments between 1 & 7 and 7 & 6 easily displaced with two fingers until touching. Tensioner moves as a result. Is this an indication of a weak tensioner?

it cold be a weak tensioner, but check the belt first it may be stretched. check the tensioner for a worn bearing on pulley as well.
