I currently own a 2003 Dakota with a 4.7 engine. It has a flowmaster exhaust on it now installed by the previous owner with original intake. Im not sure what series muffler it is (im guessing 40 maybe?), but it has a good sound to it. If i had a cold air intake setup on it, it may even sound better. Your best bet is to go on Youtube and search for exhausts for your truck to get an idea of what it will sound like. They usually do a before and after (take note of other mods they have on their truck).
